Holidays for no reason...I could get used to this...

So this is just an informative note. I'm leaving on two weeks of fall holidays today. I'm taking the train to Claudia's place in Zwickau and tomorrow (at the UNHOLY hour of 5am) we and one more girlfriend (Daniela) will be taking a super cheap train to Berlin, where we will be staying with a friend of Claudia's and his roommate. (All we have to do is cook for them! Gotta love cheap accommodations :)) Anywho, we'll be there for a few days and I will not be reachable. So obviously I also won't be posting anything til the weekend. So if you try to call me and it says the phone is disconnected...it's cuz I'm disconnecting it for the next two weeks. :) After our Berlin trip I'll be back in Ellefeld and I'm sure the blogging will recommence immediately. Although I'm starting to wonder if anyone is even still reading...It's been strangely "quiet" on my blog lately. :D

Oh hey! I thought of another thing the other day that isn't so cool about living alone! I now have to pull my OWN hair out of the sink and bathtub drains. I could not BELIEVE what reappeared out of the plumbing depths of my bathroom this Saturday! How do I even have any hair still left on my head??????????? Dad, it's official. I miss you. :P

And since this is such a short post I'll provide a little more entertainment by leaving you with some more words by D.H. Lawrence. This guy is freaking insightful and rather hilarious sometimes!!!

"When they were together, doing the things they enjoyed, the two sisters were quite complete in a perfect world of their own. And this was one of the perfect moments of freedom and delight, such as children alone know, when all seems a perfect and blissful adventure."

Ah sisters! Nothing better....

"'Yes, but where's your special world?' said Gerald.
'Make it. Instead of chopping yourself down to fit the world, chop the world down to fit yourself.'"

I just like that one.

"'You don't think one could live with him' asked Ursula.
'I think it would be too wearing, too exhausting. One would be shouted down every time, and rushed into his way without any choice. He would want to control you entirely. He cannot allow that there is any other mind than his own. No, I think it would be perfectly intolerable.'
'Yes," assented Ursula vaguely...'The nuisance is,' she said, 'that one would find almost any man intolerable after a fortnight.'"

AHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyways, have a good rest of your Oktober! :) Hey...it's Oktoberfest this weekend.... :P

I Proclaim Parents Day!

Yay! My best friend from the years when I lived in Germany, Elisabeth, is coming to visit me this weekend! She left for Africa (practicum) shortly before I arrived in Germany, so this will be the first time we have seen one another in 5 years! I am beyond ecstatic.

But now the actual reason I wanted to blog today...

Warning: This note is meant to be facetious and ironic. Don't get your panties all twisted in a knot about my apparent ignorance! :)

I've started realizing that along with the freedoms of living alone come certain responsibilitIES. I mean, I've always known that. But here is a list of things that don't suddenly and miraculously happen on their own. Maybe one needs to rent a more expensive apartment for these things to take care of themselves??? Oh wait, I think that's called a HOTEL.

- the garbage just piles up beside my door. what? there are bins outside that I need to CARRY it out to? you've got to be kidding me...

- contrary to popular belief a microwave is not the only kitchen appliance needed in the grand world of meal preparation. In order for you to even have leftovers to heat up, you need to first make a meal "from scratch" (Julia's translation: from a box. It's just not very fun cooking for one person).

- my clothes no longer magically appear neatly folded in a basket on my bedroom floor. shocker!

- in the past, when my computer decided to be a big ole ******, I would just complain incessantly for a few days, my computer would somehow disappear into the deep dark depths of my dad's office (for what reason? i never understood...), only to suddenly reappear in perfectly restored condition. go figure!

- the bills that appear in front of my apartment door have....what? my name on them? ALL OF THEM? this must be a mistake... rent? utilities? i need a dictionary...

- fridges don't self-replenish? so when i feel hungry in the evening and stare into the yawning void that is my cupboard it's my fault?

NOTE TO ALL OF YOU MOTHERLY TYPES WITH FINGERS POISED, READY TO POUNCE UPON MY STUPIDITY: Please refer back to preceding warning about facetious...ness? and irony. What I'm trying to say is that all of this kind of only truly sinks in once you actually have to do it all yourself, no matter how much head knowledge you have beforehand.

I am proclaiming October 2nd Realizing-How-Awesome-Your-Parents-Are Day. I appreciate my mom and dad, and all that they've done for me over the past 21 years, more than ever before. (Please note that the aforementioned sarcasm does not apply to this paragraph.) Am already anticipating the day I get to fill my belly with mom's homemade spaghetti sauce. :)

Hypothetically speaking...

Sorry about the second post in one day. I just had to write it down before I forgot what I wanted to say...

I've decided to start a "series" of random awesome things about living on my own that I happen to run across in the next year. These won't appear on any particular day of the week or anything. They'll simply be mentioned as they occur to me.

To kick it off I've got TWO things for today's post! You lucky ducks!

1) I've lost at least 4 or 5 pounds already. I consume only as much as I need now, instead of eating myself into a coma due to my disproportionate love for tasty meals. Again, this ties into my need to save as much moolah as possible for travel. I haven't looked this good in 4 years...and my pants are starting to fall down...

2) I can leave whatever I want wherever I want. All my jeans and half of my t-shirts are currently strewn across my bedroom floor, simultaneously burying half of my shoe collection; just how I like it, and I never have to hear about how my mother would need a pogo-stick to get from one end of my room to the other. :) I also don't get any withering glares due to the fact that there are 4 glasses half-full (or half-empty, depending on how optimistic/pessimistic you're feeling today) of water standing around the apartment. I could smear a pan of spaghetti sauce all over my floor without ever having to endure a tongue-lashing ... or even some kind of quizzical stare resulting from the preceding speculation about my current mental stability. I mean, I'm not stupid...I'm not going to smear tomato sauce all over my apartment. I'm just saying IF I WANTED TO I could.

Oh the joys of hypothetical freedom...
